Important County Funding Measures
On the May Ballot

Vote “YES” Twice for Hood River County Services!

Please Donate!   We need your help to ensure our community members understand the importance of maintaining critical services for Hood River County and vote YES to approve the Local Option Operating Levy and Prepared Food & Beverage Tax on the May 21st ballot.

The “Safe & Healthy HRC” campaign is requesting donations from strong supporters of our county’s communities – supporters like YOU. Hood River County services are at a critical juncture.  Simply stated, there is not enough funds to continue important services. The property tax rate for Hood River County is the 9th lowest of Oregon’s 36 counties and has not been increased since 1997. During this time, our county’s population has grown by 30% and inflation has increased by 57%.  In addition, funding has decreased due to significantly reduced income from federal forest activities. Extensive cuts in county employees and services have already been made and will continue.

The County Commissioners are requesting voters approve a property tax increase up to $.89/$1,000 assessed property value and a 5% Prepared Food and Beverage Tax.  This will spread the costs between property owners and our substantial tourist industry to provide funding for the following:

  • 24/7 law enforcement and assistance

  • recreational emergency response

  • public health services

  • county parks, hiking and biking trails

  • health inspections of restaurants and lodging facilities

  • services for our Veterans

  • OSU extension programs (like master gardeners and 4-H)

  • maintenance, improvements and snow removal on county roads

  • mental health services for juveniles and adults

  • county building, vehicle and equipment upkeep?
